Continental
The harmonies used in my compositions are mostly not the standard jazz harmonies as you hear them in the Jazz songbook.
‘However, in the way we treat these harmonies, play around with them on stage, and approach them differently every time, we are indebted to our “jazz” background. We want to approach the content of our own European music with the attitude of American Jazz. Emotional content with a “fun-to-do” attitude.
In saying this I feel like a child of my time, facing the challenge of wanting to make maximum use of the opportunities that the globalized world has to offer, with its unique sounds from all over the world that inspire me, and at the same time feeling the need to express my connection to the sounds and impressions of my own geographical area. I do not choose to discard the Jazz tradition altogether, though. We look for something that is a part of us at a deeper level after working in the American tradition for a number of years.’
– From the booklet notes by Rembrandt Frerichs

Jazzenzo
‘Frerichs’s aim: to use Europe’s own music culture as a breeding ground without losing the playfulness and exuberance of American jazz. Each piece is a miracle of organic creativity, in which the old and the new world flow together in an exemplary way.’
Vrij Nederland
‘The binding, central strength of this trio is tension’
Trouw
‘The interplay of the three musicians is touching, offering each other beautiful ideas so attentively and generously’
